Immigration Concerns

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope this message finds you well. In light of the newly elected President’s executive orders regarding immigration and border security, we want to reassure you about our school’s stance on these critical topics.

As a charter school, we remain steadfast in our mission of "creating a comfortable, safe, and trusting environment" for all students. We will continue to honor your child’s right to privacy and ensure that any information or actions involving immigration or law enforcement agencies follow the appropriate legal procedures.

Our school does not require any information regarding a student’s immigration status in order to provide educational services. We are fully committed to ensuring that every student is given access to education in a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment.

In the unlikely event that immigration officials arrive on campus, we have outlined the steps our school will take to respond to immigration-related queries:

  1. If an immigration agent requests access to a specific student, staff will deny immediate access, alert the Administration, and contact the student's parent/guardian.
  2. The principal will ask for the immigration agent’s credentials, inquire about the reason for the request, and request to see a valid warrant.
  3. A valid warrant must meet specific criteria: it must state the purpose of the interview, identify the search location, reference a specific person, include an accurate date, and be signed by a federal or state judge.

To further clarify and provide peace of mind, we want to emphasize the protections that remain in place for all our students:

  • The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) continues to protect your children’s privacy. We do not maintain records of immigration status, and we are dedicated to safeguarding all student information.
  • Our school will not share any student records with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) without written parent consent or a judicial order.
  • ICE officials must present a judicial order to enter school property. If this occurs, we will notify parents immediately before any student interviews take place.

During these times of change, it is important that we stay connected. We kindly ask that you ensure your contact information and emergency contacts are current. You can easily update this information by contacting the school’s front office by phone.

Thank you for your continued trust and partnership. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Warm regards,

New World Educational Center
